Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his initial title for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging period, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with former trainer Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's maiden title following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court from March of the previous year.

The win also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my both daughters together, so to get a trophy is particularly special," commented ranked player the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, comprising in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on court had led commentators to wonder if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, striving to approach the net and play positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

He recovered from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden tour championship, seized the initiative to create a final set.

The opponent defended 4 initial break points in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a return after a lengthy match.
